I enjoy that it could have been purchased in an apothecary during Dicken's era, and that it is resin from trees which has been harvested by beetles, not actually melted down beetles as I used to believe. I used it as a size and a varnish for gold leaf projects by dropping a handful of buttons into a jar of methylated spirits and sloshing it about occasionally until it dissolved. This took a good day or two so you need to prep in advance. I was worried the purple colour... |
